Chestnut Studios was started with the idea of creating a sustainable
studio practice while helping other artists to do the same.
Meet the Crew
Christi Becker- Co-Owner, Full-time Ceramic Artist
My name is Christi, I am a ceramicist, construction project fanatic, and mother to a chronically angry bunny named Theo. I grew up in McPherson, Kansas, and have been a practicing artist for the past seven years, getting my experience in clay at Bethany College. I started Chestnut Studios in 2015 out of my garage/ceramics studio in McPherson, with the dream of helping other artists too if I could. When a small space on Main Street in Lindsborg became available, I saw my chance. Having a store out front, and my studio in the back was just too perfect. By the summer of 2016 we had out-grown our tiny little shop, and decided to move a block to South Main Street. We now are able to sell more artists' and makers' work, and have even more studio and gallery space. On a typical afternoon, you'll find me in my ceramics studio in the back of the store, so make sure to pop behind the wall and say hi!
Christi's ceramic work emphasizes functionality, minimalism, and creating a personal connection between object and owner.
Carole Stuenkel- Co-Owner, Store Manager, and Part-time Artist
My name is Carole, I'm the behind the scenes designer, photographer, display-maker, and the crazy curly haired lady in charge of the retail side of Chestnut Studios. I joined Christi as just a resident artist six months after she opened the store, and became a committed co-owner shortly after. I've been an artist pretty much all my life, but after working retail for a few years, and earning my bachelor's in art and graphic design at Bethany College, I've become even more interested in the art of managing a store. It's a lovely thing to get to meet such talented people and help contribute to their success.
Carole's paintings reflect personal metaphors that relate to nature and its seasons.
Dujoh Ollivierre- Artist, Designer, Sales Associate
Hi, my name is Dujoh, (Pronouned "Dŏŏ-zhän"). I'm a visual artist and a web designer. (My drawing studio used to be opposite Christi's ceramics studio in the back of the store.) I now am focused on making a business for myself in graphic design and website building. In the field of traditional art, I am still most passionate about figure drawing. After graduating from Bethany College in 2016 with a bachelor's in Art and Graphic Design, I've been on my own extended track to proficiency in portraiture and the human form. I've always been fascinated with body language and the human figure, and it's my long-term goal to become an animator. Also, if you have not heard, Carole and I got engaged in November! We plan on getting married in a few years at my home in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Dujoh is best known for his classic black and white drawings, and his growing knowledge of the human form.
Chestnut Studios is now closed for business, but if you are interested in following the stories of our artists, stay tuned on Instagram for some maker spotlights!
